A Republican who fought and won the battle against slavery!
It is deplorable to listen to Democrats today claiming to be advocates for Black Americans (conveniently every four years) while at the same time doing nothing to equip them with the right set of tools to rise above poverty. The first black president is equally to blame stating in a recent interview with Bill O'Reily "I make speeches about this issue all of the time". Well Mr. Obama, it will take a lot more than speeches to reverse statistics like 74% of all black children are born out of wedlock and 82% of all prisoners are black. Simply throwing money at the problem will not solve the systemic cultural problems facing the black community in America.On the other side of the isle, Republicans today ignore or fail to see that this is a huge opportunity. A chance to bring to light - that Democrats only seek to embed black Americans further into the clutches of poverty. They accomplish this goal by handing out entitlements (at the expense of the American taxpayer) and breeding a culture of dependency that will perpetuate itself forever. Further evidence was brought to light yesterday when the White House Economic Advisor to the President announced that although the CBO revealed that Obamacare will create a net loss of 2.3 million jobs, this nimrod claimed the loss of jobs will, "create an opportunity for Americans to work less." Are you kidding me? This is the administration's spin on negative economic forecasts?
For the Record
May I take a moment to remind all Americans on a bit of history.It was our 16th President (A Republican) and a majority Republican House of Representatives that fought to abolish slavery and passed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution on January 31, 1865.
As President, Lincoln built the Republican Party into a strong national organization. Further, he rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy.
On the contrary, it was Southern Democrats who fought the Civil War at a huge loss to American lives to keep blacks enslaved and their aristocracy alive. Incidentally, they didn't want women to vote either. This is the real history of the Democratic Party in America.
Lincoln warned the South in his Inaugural Address: "In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The government will not assail you.... You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect and defend it."
Lincoln thought secession illegal, and was willing to use force to defend Federal law and the Union. When Confederate batteries fired on Fort Sumter and forced its surrender, he called on the states for 75,000 volunteers. Four more slave states joined the Confederacy but four remained within the Union. The Civil War had begun.
The son of a Kentucky frontiersman, Lincoln had to struggle for a living and for learning. Five months before receiving his party's nomination for President, he sketched his life: Lincoln made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm, splitting rails for fences, and keeping store at New Salem, Illinois. He was a captain in the Black Hawk War, spent eight years in the Illinois legislature, and rode the circuit of courts for many years. His law partner said of him, "His ambition was a little engine that knew no rest."
A Lesson Learned
So it is my humble opinion that at this stage in history, Republicans should remind our nation who it was that fought a horrific civil war to ensure that all Americans are treated equally. It was our 16th President Abraham Lincoln (a Republican) and the Republican Congress that forged this crucial battle.Lincoln never let the world forget that the Civil War involved an even larger issue. This he stated most movingly in dedicating the military cemetery at Gettysburg: "that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
Don't forget that although Democrats claim to support equal rights, history has proven that to be a false promise 150 years ago and it continues today. Democrats want to perpetuate the Nanny State and the dependency it creates and continue to enslave black Americans - to get their vote. Period.
Black American's should learn from history and flee from the Democratic Party if they ever want to get the help they need - from Republican men and women willing to help them achieve the American Dream.
