Living in a Post Carbon World
I was a guest speaker this month at a Green Summit held here in Tysons Corner, Virginia featuring GREEN technologies and strategies to power our country and manage power consumption. Vendors and investors from South Korea, Denmark and other nations around the world are far ahead of introduction and adoption here in the US. Unfortunately, companies here in the US will continue to lag behind the rest of the world because the Obama administration lacks the leadership ability to draft an effective energy policy ... Uncertainty brews complacency and I don't blame US firms who choose to sit and wait.
As leaders from nations considering Global Warming legislation are meeting in Copenhagen this week amist "Climate-Gate" and the world financial crisis ... there are a few of us in this world that see a totally different scenario for 2030. Realists like me feel that the futile efforts these leaders will attempt will not make any difference to the climate but are sure to disrupt and destroy the delicate balance of the world financial situation in ways that will harm us for decades.
Despite what climatolgists will argue this week debating both the data available to us (which incidentally is less than 150 years of data) and what was destroyed ... it will make no difference at all. In fact, the relationship to the Earth's billion year timeline to the data that scientists utilize to predict the climate crisis is a tiny blip on the radar. As an example, history has recorded that there was a mini ICE AGE in Europe just 800 years ago. The Earth influenced by our place in the solar system has been shifting and changing for billions of years.
Besides, we will run out of carbon based fuels way before World Leaders will have any effect. Wow ... that's a powerful statement! So why are politicians and scientists waisting their time this week? Because enviornmentalists are convinced that the human element is the only reason for the increase in world wide CO2 levels. Behind alarmists like Al Gore they are fleecing the entire globe with flawed data. They are missing one important fact - The world has reached PEAK OIL this year and we are headed to the other side of the curve to ZERO CRUDE in our childrens life time.
Zero Crude in 2030
Matthew Simmons, David Heinberg and others have been warning our leaders for over a decade that world consumption and the depletion of know reserves is revealing a serious world-wide crisis ... ZERO CRUDE. The end of carbon fuels is at its peak and well informed Geologists are predicting an end to oil, gas and other non-renewable energy sources in less than two decades. China and India are acellerating the depletion and even with new discoveries ... incresed consumption will out-pace reserves. We are running out! The Century of cheap oil is in the Twilight of its lifespan on earth.
Change Direction Now!
President Obama and leaders on Capitol Hill have no long-term energy policy that will ensure that the US will not suffer serious consequences during our childrens lifetime. Geologists predict that even if we act today to adopt new "Green Energy" and take a path towards "Energy Independence" that there are still difficult and paniful consequences ahead ... and the longer we wait to change our habits ... the more painful the transition will be.
Cap and Trade is not that solution. Placing financial burdens on Businesses will only transfer the burden to the US taxpayer ... who are already in financial trouble. Creating another costly government program to regulate carbon emmissions is down right stupidity.
What can we do?
Adopt financial incentives and tax breaks for firms who are developing alternative energy solutions for consumers to adopt immediately.
Write local, regional and national legislation that will encourage consumers to buy wind, solar, hydro, geo-termal solutions and send the excess power back to the grid. Do not tax the power generated or place additional taxation to adopt these technologies.
Finance and build a new smart grid and give incentives to businesses who adopt "smart-power" buildings that regulate the use of power.
Cut government spending by 20% and the massive growth of government by reducing the size of every agency by 20%.
Stop building cars that run on oil and gas. Allow American auto makers one year without paying tax ... if they introduce cars that run on Hydrogen, Bio Fuels or Electricity.
Make every trip count and conserve energy. Stop running to the store 10 miles away to pick-up a stick of butter.
Zero Crude before Global Warming
Forget about Global Warming and Polar Bears ... the Bears will learn to adapt - they have for centuries. What we need to do is work very hard to wean ourselves off of OIL. This is a challenging yet realistic goal to set for America. We should abandon the heritic philosophies proposed by Former Vice President Al Gore and the alarmists who blindly follow the fleecing of the world and begin to plan and adopt a long term energy strategy immediately. To do so will lessen the burden for our children ... and in the long run advance the possibility to achieve energy independence from foreign governments that now dictate world policy with the price of a barrel of oil.
If we ran out of oil today ... can you imagine the chaos? No gas to get to work. No JetA to fuel our planes. A global crisis beyond comprehension.
On the other hand if we begin to plan for the future and adopt Wind, Solar, Hydro and other forms of energy and take the lead creating, adopting and selling these technologies to the world ... we would climb out of this financial crisis in short order and create a safer world for our children.
And Mr. Gore ... give back the Oscar!
